The newest division of Tampa Roofing Company, Advanced Metal Systems,
was formed around the acquisition of our Schlebach
Quadro-Plus Rollformer. Combined with Tampa Roofing Company's expertise
in standing seam metal roof systems and their commitment to detail,
Advanced Metal Systems installs a standing seam metal roof system that
is completely and mechanically water tight. And, panels can be fabricated
on-site in a matter of minutes.
Part of the renovation of Historic Ybor City, half the roof system
on the Old Florida Brewery is a standing seam galvalume roof with stainless
steel flashings, counterflashing, and ridge cap. When using galvalume, care must be taken to fabricate the entire
s ection from the same coil because each coil is a slightly different
color. Stainless steel must be used for the counterflashing and the
ridge cap because galvalume does not work well with the mortar joints
in the brick walls. Old fashioned stainless steel skylights were manufactured
to Tampa Roofing Company specifications by Hillsborough Sheet Metal,
who has been working with us hand in hand for almost 40 years.
The tower on the Old Florida Brewery is 18/12 pitch and 6 stories
tall. This roof will have a new standing seam hard copper roof with
special clips, fastener details and stiffener ridges to meet extra demands
due to the wind exposure. Some of the details on this project include:
stepped counterflashing, a valley that dies into a wall, and a one foot
flat ledge that will drain into copper gutter with downspouts that are approximately 90 feet long. Extra
care will need to be taken for fall protection, especially when installing
the detailed ridge cap specification designed by Tampa Roofing Company.
This ridge cap specification is used on both the copper and galvalume
roof areas and incorporates the waterproofing system, attic ventilation
and an allowance for expansion. It will also allow for the additional
fasteners that are critical for the wind uplift needs on this part of
the project.
The ridge cap is designed to allow for a folded seam on top of the
standing seam. A "Z-metal" has been installed on the standing seam with a counterflashing
that acts as an expansion joint between the ridge and the roof as well
as preventing blowing rain from intruding into the system. It also acts
as a second shield against wind uplift. As you can see, the ridge cap
is fabricated from stainless steel. Because of the angle change between
the galvalume and the stainless steel, the color difference is negligible.
And, we are able to solder the stainless steel where necessary.
